Kimalé is an innovative fashion brand that celebrates the “joie de vivre” of the global riviera. Established by Irène Mamfredos, a French designer (formerly assistant head of studio at Balenciaga) who envisioned a "slow fashion" brand with ethical criteria and a positive social footprint together with her friend and pattern-maker Aliki Demi.

Kimalé merges bold African fabrics -often handmade or rare- with clean and contemporary silhouettes. The label sources many fabrics from the French association "Les Piroguiers" which is active in Togo and Burkina Faso, helping schools with material and funds and supporting a number of local artisans.
Limited edition clothes, jewelry and home accessories which playfully navigate between the colorful palette of African culture and the minimal side of contemporary fashion. Every item is made with love and craftsmanship in downtown Athens and represents a beautiful marriage of ethnic vibes and minimal shapes that can be worn and enjoyed in the city or in bohemian seaside resorts: Kimalé blooms wherever the sun shines!

Our new collection for SS18

Named after the 70's pop hit by the notorious Dalida, our new collection combines ethnic vibes and that breezy riviera feeling with a touch of mystery.
The collection, like the song, is joyous and playful yet in the background there lies a question waiting to be answered: What is this intoxicating joie de vivre that flows from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean and back?
It is the same question KIMALÉ seeks to answer, when combining multi-ethnic inspiration and fabrics, with Parisian chic (where our collections are mostly designed) and Greek simplicity and craftsmanship (where the construction takes place): Which siren's songs leads us in our Odyssey of style?
Like Ulysses drifted to the island of Calypso where she enchanted him with her singing, our style travels take us from Paris to Athens to secret islands of Greek nymphs like Calypso and to other seaside resorts and places of character where the sun shines bright. From the flowerbeds of Provence to Rome in the spring, and even to those 80s TV soap operas where it was never winter.
Sexy kimonos, minoan long skirts and sleeveless shirts, aviator jumpsuits in african waxprint, chinese cropped and padded jackets, drawstring comfy pants in shiny "bazin riche" materials, grecian one-shoulder dresses in bold prints, a whole kaleidoscope of exciting designs comes to life in simple, comfortable and elegant silhouettes with special details: Hand-finished elements, artisanal brass buttons in animal forms, custom belts and secret pleats and pockets.
The etymology of Calypso's name is from the Greek καλύπτω (kalyptō), meaning "to cover", but also "to deceive". We like to think of that as a style trait, insofar as our clothes cover the body but also create a fascination in those who see a woman wearing them.
